Description:

Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th century BCE. A wide shallow, wheel-thrown ritual drinking cup raised upon a small disc foot with a red reserve, concave band along the foot's periphery and a red border encircling the underside of the base. Once in a while we see an example of blackware where the finish is remarkably well preserved like this piece. Oh so elegant and refined! Size: 6" in diameter x 2.625" H (15.2 cm x 6.7 cm)

Provenance: private Monsieur Gerard Boyer collection, Paris, France, acquired in the 1970's, comes with thermoluminescence analysis from QED Laboratoire, Aix-en-Provence
