Description:

Greek, Athens, ca. 525 to 475 BCE. This ceramic vessel is truly a work of art, with a voluminous body that stands on a round foot, a concave neck that rises to a flared rim, and a bifurcated handle with an openwork center joining rim to shoulder. The body has a scalloped design running from base to the lower handle, then a band of ovalo followed by a gently concave striation running the circumference, and a band of miniature stylized palmettes above. A concentric circle marks the underside of the base. The black glaze presents a wonderful luster and almost metallic patina; it was probably intended to look like a bronze vessel. Truly one of the finest examples of Attic blackware we have ever handled! Size: 4.375" W from handle to opposite end x 2.875" H (11.1 cm x 7.3 cm)
