Description:

Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th to early 4th century BCE. An elegant Attic blackware oinochoe (pouring vessel) with a bulbous body, a short cylindrical neck, and a trefoil spout, with a strap handle joining rim to shoulder, all upon a discoid foot. A carefully painted starburst motif of slender black striations on an orange ground adorns the shoulder of this ancient vessel. A lovely example, with particularly glossy, almost reflective finish, created to store precious liquids like oil or wine. Size: 5.75" in diameter x 9.875" H (14.6 cm x 25.1 cm)

Provenance: private Salisbury, Maryland, USA collection; ex-private Arizona, USA collection, acquired around 1970
