Description:

Greece, Archaic Period, ca. 500 BCE. One of our favorites, a lovely 96% silver ring with a thin cylindrical band and a diamond-shaped face. The face is engraved with a motif that shows deer running inside a fretted border. According to John Boardman, such finger rings with engravings on their bezels have been found in Greek and Etruscan sites, and while some were likely made in Greece, Sicily, or South Italy, others were created in Etruria. This ring is an Archaic Greek example. Size (ring): 0.9" W x 0.875" H (2.3 cm x 2.2 cm); (face): 0.6" L x 0.3" W (1.5 cm x 0.8 cm); quality of silver: 96%; total weight: 3.8 grams; US ring size 9.
