Description:

Greece, Magna Graecia, South Italy, Apulian, ca. 350 to 320 BCE. A fine red-figure skyphos with added/fugitive white and yellow paint decorated on each side with an elegant "lady of fashion" donning a radiate stephane, sakkos, beaded necklace, and drop earrings - a palmette and tendrils below each curved, raised handle, striations just above the foot, concentric rings under the foot, and a band of sinuous wave motifs under the rim. In Apulian style, the paint is red, yellow, and pink. The "lady of fashion" motif is thought to represent a young woman on her wedding day. Size: 6" W x 3.2" H (15.2 cm x 8.1 cm)
