Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A fine South Italic example of a classic Attic form, this red-figure skyphos presents a wonderful form comprised of a dual-handled, deep cup with a low flanged base. On each side, the vase painter depicted a red-figure owl, standing between two sprays of olive leaves, among a field of lustrous black glaze. This type of skyphos was extremely popular for several centuries, initially exported from Athens throughout the Greek world, including into Italy. Size: 5.4" W x 2.625" H (13.7 cm x 6.7 cm).
