Description:

Greek, colony of Apulia, southeastern Italy, 4th century BCE. Attractive and elaborately decorated pottery plate in red-figure technique. Female seated facing right holding a caskette in her left hand and a dead small porcine in her right. This may be an indication of an offering ceremony, or perhaps she just likes pork. Fillets in background and tongue design directly beneath her. Typical laurel leaves surround the entire scene, underside mostly decorated in black lead glaze, areas of foot left reserved. Size: 8.75" W x 2" H (22.2 cm x 5.1 cm)
