Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 315 BCE. Fine pottery krater used to mix water and fortified wine. Scene A is decorated with nude youth walking left while looking right, holding torch in his right hand, large stalk and cloak in his left. He is looking back toward a maiden who holds a similar stalk and patera, floral elements in the field. Below is Greek key and above laurel leaves. On side B, typical scene of two youths chatting, each holding a staff. Nice example! Size: 10-1/4"H x 11-3/4" diameter. Provenance: Ex-private Ketchum, Idaho collection acquired from major auction house or art gallery before 2000.
