Description:

Greco-Roman, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. A gorgeous terracotta head of a goddess. She has a sensitive and naturalistic face with almond-shaped eyes, puffy cheeks, a petite chin, and an archaic smile, clearly from the Classical period. She wears a large headdress with a central medallion as well as a pair of drooping triangular earrings underneath an elaborately coiffed hairstyle. This may have been a votive offering for a temple or made to be a copy of a larger, possibly bronze, statue. Remnants of the original red, beige, and white pigmentation are still visible atop the orange-red pottery. Comes with custom display stand. Size: 2.375" H (6 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
