Ancient Near East, Persia, Hellenistic to Greco-Persian, attributed to the Bern Group, ca. late 5th to 4th century BCE; Europe, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A fabulous Greco-Persian carnelian intaglio attributed to the Bern group, set in a Neoclassical silver swivel pendant to be wearable. Boasting a translucent hue of burgundy, the sizable, ovoid gem displays the incised image of a grazing antelope, facing right with head bowed as he feasts upon vegetal growth, all capped by an elegant pair of sweeping horns. Size of intaglio: 1.1" L x 0.9" W (2.8 cm x 2.3 cm); of pendant: 1.3" L x 1.4" W (3.3 cm x 3.6 cm); silver quality: 93%; weight: 5.9 grams

  • Condition: Ancient intaglio set in Neoclassical pendant to be wearable. Slight indentations and scratches to silver, but otherwise, both pendant and intaglio are intact and in overall very good condition. Nice preservation of incised detail.
