Description:

Europe, Italy, Rococo period, ca. late 18th century CE. A large wooden cherub (also known as a putto) covered with a thin layer of gesso and painted a brilliant, sparkling gold. The cherub is dramatically depicted, with a serious expression on its childish face, wide, staring eyes, and a circle of curling, wavy hair. It is posed dynamically, head turned towards the viewer and body turned silghtly away, arms raised, as if it was once holding something large. Rococo art centered around carefree, fantastic scenes, often featuring aristocrats. Cherubs were included in this artistic style to give it a touch of whimsy and romance. Size: 7.5" L x 17.5" W x 35.5" H (19 cm x 44.4 cm x 90.2 cm)
