Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A polychrome bird effigy vessel, the head has a wide opening that leads to the hollow interior, and a thin spout rises vertically from the verso. The surface is painted with orange, creamy white, black, and the classic purple hue that is indicative of later Gran Cocle periods and the ceramic styles such as the Macaracas, Conte, and Joaquin. Size: 4.5" W x 5.25" H (11.4 cm x 13.3 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 352. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
