Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, ca. 500 to 1200 CE. A spectacular dish resting on a short foot, the shallow vessel serving as a canvas for depicting abstract crocodilians! The plate is divided through the center, the saurian creatures facing opposite directions painted in red - and black hues. Gran Cocle refers to a cultural region in pre-Columbian Panama, known for its archaeological significance, particularly in the central part of the country. It encompasses several cultures and sites that were prominent between 500 CE and 1520 CE. Size: 12.75" Diameter x 2.5" H (32.4 cm x 6.4 cm)
