Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Macaracas type, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of round-bottomed form with a wide midsection and a squat neck that doubles as the head of an abstract zoomorphic creature, perhaps feline. The beige-hued surfaces are densely adorned with red and black pigment forming saurian heads, lengthy limbs, and sharp claws, along with several slender marking denotive of fur. Size: 8.09" Diameter x 6.1" H (20.5 cm x 15.5 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 216. Appraised for $1,200 by Marianne Huber in 2014.

  • Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to original pigment, otherwise in nice condition. Great zoomorphic form.

Our shippers of choice are DHL for International shipments and UPS for domestic shipments, but we are able to ship via other carriers at the buyer's expense as deemed necessary or by request.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
