About the Artist: Born in La Paz, Bolivia, Graciela Rodo Boulanger is best known for playful scenes that capture the joys of childhood. Many of her works also reflect her musical background. Boulanger studied piano with her mother, and went on to study music in Chile, Austria, and Argentina. Then, at age 25, she decided to devote herself to painting. Early in her career, she painted the indigenous peoples of the Andes but then transitioned to the whimsical childhood themes that we all know and love. For many years, she lived in Paris and studied under Johhny Friedlaender, a pioneer of color printmaking and aquatint etchings. Ever since her first solo exhibition in Vienna in 1953, Graciela Rodo Boulanger has worked in numerous mediums - etching, lithography, water color, pastel, sculpture, tapestry, as well as oil painting.
