Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gracefully carved marble bust of the god Apollo, depicted with his classic topknot and flowing curls in the style most famous from Leochares' Apollo Belvedere (ca. 120 to 140 BCE). Apollo, god of music, poetry, art, and knowledge, is portrayed here, as he always was, as the height of Classical beauty: a beardless, athletic youth. The artist has depicted him with a very lifelike, human expression. His large almond eyes gaze straight ahead underneath a shallow brow; he has a prominent nose and a small, full-lipped mouth that is pursed in a neutral expression. The marble used to make the sculpture is of a high quality, and the skilled artist has utilized their material wonderfully to bring this sculpture to life from stone. Size: 2.25" W x 3.85" H (5.7 cm x 9.8 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.
