Description:

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th century CE. A beautiful drinking cup of a simple yet elegant form, free-blown from semi-translucent glass of a pale green hue. The vessel presents with an inverted, bell-shaped upper body, tall walls with a smooth, rolled rim, and a rounded lower body, all atop a slender stem and a discoid foot. Thick layers of fiery rainbow-hued iridescence have formed across the composition and elegantly complement the vessel's soft spring hues. Size: 2.8" W x 3.625" H (7.1 cm x 9.2 cm).

For a stylistically-similar example with a taller body, please see "Glasses of Antiquity." Fortuna Fine Arts, Ltd., New York, 2002, fig. 107.
