Rome, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. Stunning bronze maskette or applique in the form of a satyr. Satyrs can look menacing or benign, with this example certainly among the later. Cherubic face with upturned nose, pointed ears and large lock of curls hanging down on his forehead. At each upper side of head is a small recess where this would have been attached with opposing pins. Lovely deep green patina! Custom stand. Size: 2"W.
