Ancient Near East, Persia, Parthian Empire, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A matched pair of fierce gold earrings - the gold 74% or equivalent to 18K+. Each is a thick hoop decorated with delicate granulations that extend partway around the body down from the terminals in swags and lines. At each terminal is a dramatic lion head with bulging eyes and granulated manes; delicate curled wires form nostrils. Suspension loops atop could be fitted to a modern setting to be wearable. A stunning pair of earrings that no doubt signified opulence! Size of one (they are nearly identical): 1.8" W x 1.7" H (4.6 cm x 4.3 cm); gold quality: 74% or equivalent to 18K+; total weight: 24 grams

Condition:
Both are in lovely condition with very slight bending to form and a few tiny deformations of the surface. Both have been cleaned. A professional jeweler could make them wearable but they do not currently have anything to affix them to the ears.
