Description:

Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A fabulous free-blown flask formed from semi-translucent blue glass. The vessel is striking, with a narrow, disc-shaped body, a tapering cylindrical neck, and a collared rim. The composition of the glass is thin, giving it a delicate feel. Silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence envelops the exterior surfaces and nicely complements the blue glass. Size: 5.15" W x 7.2" H (13.1 cm x 18.3 cm); 9" H (22.9 cm) on included custom stand.

#146577

  • Condition: Intact, with fine silvery iridescence on surface and interior encrustations. Jagged pontil mark on underside. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.
