Northern Italy, Etruria, ca. 4th century BCE. Large, lovely and wearable 23K+ gold pendant. Pear-shaped pendant of thin gold sheet, hollow on the interior, and openwork section around "equator" of the piece. Both the lowest and upper sections of the pendant are enhanced with tiny granulated gold balls in pyramidal and geometric patterns. Would have adorned the neck of a very wealthy member of the elite class. Gold tests 96.5% pure with other metals including silver and copper - that is more than 23 karat! Size: 1" H (2.5 cm); Weight: 5.2 grams.
