Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A fabulous polychrome hand-built terracotta face bowl, quite large and deep, with a bold visage at one end of the bowl presenting expressive features including incised double eyes underscored by painted double triangles in red and tan, modeled raised ears and nose and an open mouth. Beyond this intriguing iconography, the walls are further adorned with diagonal stripes in vibrant red, tan, and orange hues. Size: 10" in diameter x 4" H (25.4 cm x 10.2 cm)
