Description:

South America, Brazil, millions and millions of years old. A large-crystalled white quartz, lavender, and dark amethyst geode, tall and narrow, studded with regularly-shaped crystalline explosions of purple color. Geodes are formed when an exterior rock is lined with mineral materials and weathers more slowly than surrounding bedrock. The interior lining is a druse, a coating of fine crystals on a rock surface. These fascinating stones require specific types of geological environments to form, specifically volcanic deposits where the voids in lava flows are filled in with the agate, quartz, and other geode-forming minerals, or sedimentary rocks where there are gas-filled voids that can be filled by minerals. As a result, they are relatively rare, and found in special locations. Size: 9" W x 15.25" H (22.9 cm x 38.7 cm)
