European, made in Holland or possibly Germany, traded to the Dogon people of Mali, ca. 18th century CE. A strand of 47 large, round glass trade beads, all presenting deep cobalt blue hues, with fantastic almost flourescent patina in their lower profile areas. The Dutch traded beads of this style with the Dogon people in exchange for furs, raw materials, and slaves. These beads were strung on a modern raffia cord and are wearable as is. Size: 25" L (63.5 cm); beads measure ~ .625" in diameter (1.6 cm)

  • Condition: The beads present expected surface wear with scratches, abrasions, and a few nicks commensurate with age. Surfaces also show earthen deposits, and the glass beads glow with attractive flourescence when held to the light. Strung on raffia cord that dates later, making the beads wearable as a necklace.
