Description:

Western Europe, Switzerland, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. This Gerald Genta Gefica chronograph men's wristwatch is a self-winding, water-resistant timepiece featuring a black dial with a day and date calendar, three subdials for seconds, a 30-minute register, and a 12-hour register, alongside gold-toned luminous baton hour hands and applied luminous round indexes. Its sandblasted bronze bezel with a raised beaded edge enhances the rugged design, while the stainless steel caseback is etched with a fish, the model name, model number ("G.2989.7"), and case number ("39643"). First introduced in 1984 at the request of three safari hunters - Geoffroy, Fissore, and Canali - the watch's name, Gefica, derives from the first two letters of their names. The pioneering use of bronze, selected for its matte finish to avoid reflections, broke ground in watchmaking and appealed to both big-game hunters and urban aficionados. Size of band: 2.55" Diameter x 0.75" W (6.5 cm x 1.9 cm); case: 1.4" Diameter (3.6 cm)

Gerald Genta (1931-2011) was a visionary Swiss watch designer, often hailed as the "Picasso of Watchmaking." Over his illustrious career, Genta revolutionized the industry by creating iconic timepieces for prestigious brands such as Audemars Piguet (Royal Oak), Patek Philippe (Nautilus), and Omega (Constellation). In 1969, he launched his eponymous brand, where he pushed the boundaries of creativity, blending innovative materials with bold designs. This Gefica chronograph is a prime example of Genta's genius, combining functionality with a groundbreaking aesthetic. Its rugged yet refined appeal reflects Genta's ability to merge practicality with timeless elegance, making it a coveted piece for collectors and style enthusiasts alike.
