Description:

Gandhara, modern day northwest Pakistan, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. This is a stucco fragment of a head in the Gandharan style, showing both Asian and Hellenistic influences in the shape of the eyes, nose, and mouth -- although the face looks like contemporary statues of the Buddha, the smooth, straight hair indicates that this bust is of another individual (the Buddha is always shown with tightly curled hair). Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.75" W x 3.5" H (7 cm x 8.9 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private M. Reniger collection, Chicago, IL.
