Description:

Late Roman Imperial Period or Gallo-Roman, ca. 4th to 8th century CE. A cast brass shield boss also known as an umbo, with a deeply domed center, the rims pierced for securing to a wood shield, with the remains of 2 rivets with circular heads are still attached to the rim. Bosses deflected weapon blows and enabled the hand-grip to be recessed and protected. Size: 8.25" Diameter x 2" W (21 cm x 5.1 cm); 12.75" H (32.4 cm) on included custom stand.
