A breathtaking large-scale pastel drawing by Gale Antokal from her Night Swimming series (1986 and 1989). Antokal's composition presents a sublime seascape at night with dramatic lights beaming through the atmosphere and reflecting from the body of water below. Antokal magically bridges realism and abstraction, creating an ethereal sense of place. An awe-inspiring pastel by Gale Antokal mounted in an attractive custom frame. About the artist: "Gale Antokal was born in New York, New York, and received her BFA (1980) and MFA from the California College of the Arts in 1984. She is a Professor Emeritus at San Jose State University in the Department of Art and Art History. Antokal held several visiting artist positions and teaching positions including the San Francisco Art Institute, Instructor of Art History at the Lehrhaus Institute, and the American College in Jerusalem. She was an affiliate faculty member in the JSSItaly program in Civita Castellana, Italy in 2015. In 1992 Antokal received a Visual Arts Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She is represented by Seager-Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, CA, the Tayloe Piggott Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Amy Simon Fine Arts in Westport Connecticut.   • Condition: Signed and dated on lower right. Artwork is mounted in a custom wood frame under plexiglass. Artwork not examined outside the frame but appears to be in overall excellent condition. Frame has a few minor scuffs/nicks but is otherwise quite nice. Couturier Gallery on verso. Suspension wire on verso.
