Description:

Marguerite Westbury (American, active early 20th century), untitled watercolor, ca. 1930s - 1940s. Signed on the lower right, a very fine and quite sizeable watercolor, depicting a panoramic Southwest landscape with countless desert plants dotting foreground to middle ground, followed by majestic mountains, and wide open skies above. The color palette is particularly soothing - varying shades of sage green for the foliage against golden yellow and cream hued sandy earth; earthy russet, slate grey, warm beige, and cornflower blue mountains; finally azure blues, soft white, with touches of green and sun-drenched yellow in the skies. Matted and framed under glass. Size: 17.25" W x 11.125" H (43.8 cm x 28.3 cm); 24.5" W x 18.5" H (62.2 cm x 47 cm) framed

  • Condition: Some tears to gallery paper on verso. Label on verso from framer (Rike-Kumler Company) dated 6/16/47. Painting has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in good condition. Signed on lower right. Could be secured to the frame a bit better, but this would be easy to do. Wired for suspension.
