David Foley (American, b. 1954), "Shadowed Aspen", watercolor, signed at lower right, ca. 1999. David Foley's remarkable command of the watercolor medium draws you into his closeup view of an Aspen grove with a few evergreens interspersed - their trunks and foliage brought right up to the picture plane and brilliantly cast in slight shadows as bright yellow sunlight glistens through their forms - a dramatic use of light and shadow that helps our eyes move through the painting. The painstaking attention to details, the intensity of color, as well as the play of light and shadow make for an almost photorealistic experience. Size: 38" L x 26.5" W (96.5 cm x 67.3 cm); 50" L x 38.75" W (127 cm x 98.4 cm) framed

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, David Foley received his B.A. from the University of New Orleans and his Masters of Fine Art at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Foley lives and paints in Colorado, where he finds his inspiration in the natural environment. Widely collected, his paintings may be found in both private and corporate collections in France, Germany, Australia, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, Israel, Dushanbe, Hong Kong, and throughout the United States.
