Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A beautiful textile panel fragment composed of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of sapphire, caramel, and cream. The fragment is divided into two distinct areas, one with a dark-blue background, and the other with a cream-hued background. A singular avian figure of a large and highly-stylized form fills most of each panel, is surrounded by abstract geometric motifs and concentric circles, with additional abstract zoomorphic figures within the main body. Mounted against a modern woven textile panel inside a fabric-lined frame. Size (textile): 5.3" W x 8.125" H (13.5 cm x 20.6 cm); size (frame): 12.6" W x 14.625" H (32 cm x 37.1 cm).
