Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A beautifully-crafted ornamental textile tassel comprised of tightly-woven fibers in hues of magenta, cobalt, wheat, teal, and cream. The bodies of the nine intact tassel strands display a repeating motif of abstract circular forms in varying colors as they get closer to the fringed tips. Groups of tassel strands are bound together along the top section, and a singular white loop projects from above. Mounted on a fabric-lined panel inside a frame. Size (textile): 9.25" W x 11.5" H (23.5 cm x 29.2 cm); size (frame): 11.2" W x 14.2" H (28.4 cm x 36.1 cm).

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
