Description:

Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A gathering of eleven cast-bronze weapons from ancient Luristan. A series of nine large arrowheads surround a tenth arrowhead of a petite size, each with a slender tang and a petaloid blade head. Two of the arrow heads feature drooping prongs flanking the tang, and four bear sharply angled lower corners. The largest weapon is a socketed spear head on the bottom with a lengthy blade, a tall midrib, and a pair of rings wrapped around the conical socketing shaft. All weapons have formed lovely green and brown patina across their surfaces. Mounted on a display frame. Size of largest (spear head): 11.625" L x 1.25" W (29.5 cm x 3.2 cm); (display frame): 18.9" W x 22.2" H (48 cm x 56.4 cm)

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, bought in 1970 from a registered dealer in Tehran, Iran

  • Condition: Losses to areas of socketing shaft on spear head as shown. All items have slight bending to overall forms, with light encrustations, and nicks and abrasions to blade edges and tangs/socketing shaft. Nice earthen deposits and great patina throughout.
