Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. A fine textile fragment from a sash or a belt comprised of tightly-woven fibers in hues of tan, gold, burgundy, and espresso. The strap features an abstract geometric motif of alternating shapes in gold and red colors. A flowing tassel end is sewn to a thick square panel which shows an abstract zoomorphic figure. Mounted in a frame against a fabric-lined backing. Size (textile): 1.5" W x 19" H (3.8 cm x 48.3 cm); size (frame): 7.25" W x 22.625" H (18.4 cm x 57.5 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
