Description:

Europe, England, ca. 1665. An impressive parchment document of large form with 32 beautifully scripted lines of black Latin court hand adorned with an enlarged heading reading, "Carolus Dei gratia Hoglie Scds", or "Charles the Second by the Holy Grace of God". Beautiful curvilinear lines of lattice-work designs and phytomorphic decoration embellish the title under a painted petaloid motif, while thin red lines elegantly underline the writing and also decorate the sides in several long vertical lines. Initials are signed on the paper that seals the document. Written in 1665, this is likely a type of court order passed under King Charles II of England. Size: 29" W x 24.625" H (73.7 cm x 62.5 cm); Size in frame: 31.25" W x 25.125" H (79.4 cm x 63.8 cm)
