Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1300 CE - 1500 CE. Next we have an anthropomorphic stone idol that is surrounded by corn stalks. The rear end has an indentation used for hallucinogenic drugs. 2-1/2"H x 1-1/2"W

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 1400-400 BCE. A carved, stone fetish in the form of a hallucinogenic cactus. The San Pedro Cactus is the name given to the psychoactive species of the genus Trichocereus, a large columnar cactus found mainly in the Andes that contains mescaline, also found in the peyote cactus. The earliest depiction of the cactus is a carving which shows a mythological being holding the San Pedro. It belongs to the Chavín culture and was found in an old temple at Chavín de Huantar in the northern highlands of Peru, and dates about 1300 BC. Artistic renderings have been found on pottery and textiles. Stone renditions are relatively less common. 2"L
