Native American, Eastern Woodlands, ca. 5000 to 1000 BCE. A set of 4 hand-carved stone axe heads that could be used either by hand or by binding to a sturdy wooden pole. Three of the stone tools exhibit either three-quarter grooves or full grooves that wrap around the midsection, and the most petite is of smooth, ovoid form with a tapered blade edge along one narrow side. Size of largest: 6.4" L x 3.125" W x 1.7" H (16.3 cm x 7.9 cm x 4.3 cm)
