Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A set of 4 hand-carved greenstone axe god figures, each with a dense body and minimalist facial features formed via the string-cutting technique. Each figure features petite notches below the legs to create a delineation mark, and the necks are defined by gentle grooves just around the collarbones. Size of largest: 1.64" L x 1.99" W x 4.64" H (4.2 cm x 5.1 cm x 11.8 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
