Description:

Northern / Eastern Europe, Baltic Vikings / Viking Rus, ca. 12th century CE. A fabulous group of four cast bronze pennanular brooches (fibulae) of the style known as Mordvinian, with granulated surfaces. This style incorporates the penannanular style and enlarges the terminals, expanding them into long, isosceles triangle-shaped plates with their second longest faces lying against each other. Two have loops projecting from their sides at regular intervals, and each has a pin wrapped around its ring. The loops would have bee used to attach decorative chains which would have had dangling beads at their ends. Size of largest (all are fairly similar in size): 1.95" W x 2.5" H (5 cm x 6.4 cm)
