**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Peru, ca. 500 to 1500 CE. This is a really nice, complementary collection of four small blackware objects from ancient Peru, each depicting a different animal that was symbolically meaningful and whose motifs were abundant in their societies. Size of largest (stirrup jar): 5.5" L x 3.05" W x 4.8" H (14 cm x 7.7 cm x 12.2 cm)
One is a small stirrup jar in the form of a jaguar with a sweet, rather than fierce, face and small nubbins for its paws on the bottom corners of the cuboid vessel. Another is a finial in the form of a toucan- or heron-like bird, with a long beak tilted downward and wings extended behind its perch. Third is an ocarina in the form of a long, spiral shell, rather like a tibia shell, with a lizard perched on one end. Finally, there is a magnificent crested lizard seated on the remains of a strap handle. A delightful collection!

- Condition: Stirrup jar is missing its tail and its spout is chipped around the rim. The bird finial is slightly chipped on its base with signs of wear overall. The shell ocarina has small losses from one end. The lizard figure is a fragment of a strap handle and has the remains of an old repair on one side.
