Northwestern Europe, England Sheffield, ca. 19th century CE. A collection of 4 brass, copper, and leather gunpowder flasks in dram measurements. The brass and copper bodied flasks are mold-formed and include: G. & J.W. Hawksley Sheffield made powder flask- repousse brass with oak leaves, stags, and fox heads, and 2 James Dixon & Sons Sheffield made flasks with a fluted motif, and the copper bodied flask with a cannon and flags. The fourth does not have a maker name and a leather body embossed with game rabbits and birds. Such flasks stored black powder to keep dry, the nozzle operated with a tension-closed barrier via an exterior thumb tab on the neck. Size of largest: 8.75" L x 3.75" W (22.2 cm x 9.5 cm)

  • Condition: Green patina on brass leaf flask. Leather flask has a modern metal wire threaded through the leather body base. Minor indentations and abrasions to brass and copper areas. Patina and toning on all. Overall good condition and clear motifs. Some rubbing to maker and dram marks, but legible.
