Spanish Colonial, Mexico, ca. 18th century CE. A colorful group of four glazed square ceramic tiles from Spanish-Colonial Mexico. Each tile displays images of flowers, petals, bulbs, and linear motifs, with one showing twin flared-rim vessels flanking a gold-hued serpentine band. These tiles would have been used to decorate everything from homes to churches, and from marketplaces to sidewalks. A lovely ensemble! Size of largest: 7.2" W (18.3 cm).

Provenance: private Omer Claiborne collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA; acquired over the last 40 years
