Description:

Ancient Europe and Asia, Pleistocene Epoch, ca. 1.2 million to 24,000 years ago. A fine example of a fossilized tooth from a woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis) with a pair of columnar roots protruding from the base of the enamel. The enamel portion has obtained a dark brown surface color as a result of fossilization, and the flat profile of the top is indicative of the creature being a herbivore. The tooth has developed smooth surface textures that are also resultant of fossilization. Included with the tooth is a tuft of coarse hair from a woolly mammoth (Mammathus primigenius) of a brown color. Size (tooth): 2" W x 3.5" H (5.1 cm x 8.9 cm); 4.4" H (11.2 cm) on included custom stand.
