Description:

Northern Asia, Siberia, Pleistocene Epoch, ca. 1.2 million to 24,000 years ago. A fossilized tooth from the prehistoric woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis) with the characteristic hollowed cavities that form a "smiling face." Long columnar roots in brown protrude from the base- some upper layers peeled away displaying the various hues below. The enamel is a white and gray hue, surrounding the open rims of the internal cavities. The unique cavities on the occlusal surface indicate this is a molar tooth, and are a natural part of the tooth formation, these cavities also inspired the scientific name of these rhinos, as Coelodonta antuquitatis which translates to "ancient hollow tooth." Size: 1.75" L x 1.3" W x 2.2" H (4.4 cm x 3.3 cm x 5.6 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
