Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Timor, Permian, ca. 520 to 250 million years ago. This is a gorgeous pair of earrings made from a fossilized ammonite, split in half, then polished and set in a sterling silver setting with ear wires. Ammonites are prehistoric mollusk with aesthetically pleasing spiraling shells- often compared to the famous golden spiral and Fibonacci sequence in geometry. These spiraling chambers are a lovely red-brown with pink and white quartzite inclusions that show most of the shell's septa structures. The verso is polished but retains some of the natural slightly domed qualities of this shell before it was split, and the swirling suture patterns. Wearable and unique, this is a beautiful pair of earrings with an outstanding fossilized shell! Size of each (both are relatively similar): 1.46" L x 0.85" W (3.7 cm x 2.2 cm); sterling silver quality: 92.5% or higher; weight: 9.8 grams
