North America, Wyoming, Green River Formation, Eocene Period, ca. 53.5 to 48.5 million years ago. A shoal of Knightia fish that fossilized together in what is often called a "life assemblage" because the stone matrix contains a once living community of creatures that died while they were behaving as the normally would - likely hit by a sudden "catastrophic mass mortality" event.
