Central Asia, Russia, ca. 400 million years ago. A pair of fossilized ammonites with fascinating dark, smooth surfaces and veins that appear golden-colored. The name "ammonite" came from Pliny the Elder after the Egyptian god Ammon, who was typically depicted wearing ram's horns that Pliny thought these fossils resembled. Size of one (they are very similar in size): 11" W (27.9 cm); 10.2" H (25.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Colorado, USA collection
