Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A fossilized tooth from the prehistoric megalodon shark. The tooth has a thick matte black root and gray enamel with a nice sheen and beige striations running vertically across the surface that formed with the fossilization process. Megalodons were among the largest predators the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that have survived since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Interestingly, medieval people believed that these strange teeth were moon rocks or dragon's tongues! Size: 5" L x 3" W (12.7 cm x 7.6 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
