Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 23 to 2.6 million years ago. This fossilized megalodon shark tooth offers a glimpse into the prehistoric ocean's most formidable predator! The tooth's front enamel has been expertly polished to a smooth texture, unveiling the dark stone matrix beneath the gray enamel, while the unpolished verso remains in its raw, natural state. As the megalodon's cartilage skeleton could not fossilize, only its teeth remain, and depending on the specific minerals present in the sediment where they were buried, these teeth can develop a wide array of colors, from deep blacks to earthy browns and rich grays. Size: 4.95" L x 3.8" W (12.6 cm x 9.7 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection, acquired September 7, 2024; ex-Charleston, South Carolina, USA collection
