Description:

North America, Alaska, Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 40,000 years ago. A fossilized ivory tusk tip fragment from a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), on a custom wood display stand. Mammoths are one of the most memorable examples of Ice Age megafauna that most people will instantly recognize; their tusks are a special part of any prehistoric and fossil collection! These striking hues occur through the process of mineralization - after the animal's death this tusk lay in soil containing minerals that turned the once white ivory into mottled brown hue. Size: 13" L x 2.25" W x 2.125" H (33 cm x 5.7 cm x 5.4 cm); 8.125" H (20.6 cm) on included custom stand.

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
